When pigs fly

So, what kind of position paper did your institution put out about the H1N1 virus?  Anything that doesn’t boil down to “If you’re sick, stay home”?

Lesboprof, one of the early adopters (but, I thankfully add, recovering), points out that this might be a good year to cut back on the opening-of-school meet-and-greets.  We had one of those this week at NLNRU, and we have one later this week at SA.  It’s true, lots of handshaking and finger foods might not be a good strategy during the threat of a pandemic.  Any changes in your neck of the woods, or is it business as usual so far?

Interestingly enough, the finger foods should be safer than the handshaking since the virus does not live in the gastrointestinal tract…. Just don’t stick the food up your nose.

  2. Nothing so far has been posted other than the “if you’re sick, stay home” stuff. Frankly, I’m getting nervous. I am NOT one to overreact to our Cult of Fear U.S. mentality, but it seems like more and more people are coming down with SF and it’s not even autumn yet.

Nothing official as of yet, other than lots of worrisome discourse about “emergency situations” and “contingency plans.” A nearby university has already reported almost 100 infected students, so I think it’s only a matter of time before it strikes my school — and who knows how long until one of my students gets it … but I’m hopeful that the chain of infection will stop there. Knocking on wood!

Hypatia, I wish I’d seen your post before I went to the opening barbecue and shook hands with parents before sticking a hot dog up my nose. LOL!

    Hang in there, everybody…
